Obituary

WILSON SELBY ADAMS

SEPTEMBER 27, 1948 - JUNE 01, 2025 (76 yrs)

Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family at the Carbonear General Hospital on Sunday June 01, 2025 after an admirable four year determined effort to overcome the many side effects from multiple strokes with such tenacity, vigor, and relentless strength.

Born and Raised in Roddickton, White Bay, Newfoundland. Lived in St. John's, Manuels (Conception Bay South.), Labrador City, Clarenville, Miramichi (New Brunswick), Largo (Florida), and Hant's Harbour (Trinity Bay South.).

Predecesed by his parents, Mary (nee Loder) and Kenneth Adams, brothers, Wilfred and Lawrence, and sister, Jessie.

Leaving to mourn are his wife of 54 years, Marguerite Peggy (Short); children, Aimee (John) and Stephen (Laurie); grandchildren, Nathan (Corale), Melanie (Simon), Amina Latifa (Luke), Brandon (Cass), and Zachary (Olivia); great-grandsons, Emile and Eero and great-granddaughter, Harlow; brothers, Robert (Patsy) and Floyd (Pat), sisters, Dulicie and Elva (Henry), also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, his special friend Vina, and many other friends near and far.

Originally, from Roddickton, Wilson, ambitiously full of adventure and excitement, left home at the age of 17 to study as a journeyman mechanic at the Fisheries College (currently named the Marine Institute) in St. John's. He then, Sept 12, 1970, he married Marguerite Peggy Short from Hant's Harbour. Together they moved to Manuels where they raised their two children, Aimee and Stephen. Next, Wilson and Peggy relocated to Hant's Harbour where he worked within the area and retired for his remaining years with intermittent temporary employment residences in Labrador City, Miramichi (New Brunswick), Clarenville, and their vacation home in Largo, Florida.

Wilson deeply loved his vacation home in Largo, Florida for ten years, as well as frequently travelling, golfing, enjoying cruises, visiting his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. He was the king of the game skip-bo and loved to challenge anyone and everyone - especially his grandchildren whom he taught the moment they were old enough to count to twelve and hold five cards in their tiny little hands. He even organized teams and tournaments just for fun.

Other favourites of Wilson were going for boil ups in the woods or on the beach all seasons of the year, skidoo-ing, fishing, staying at his brothers and sisters cabins, playing hockey, politics, being on the town council, a board member at his church, and actively supporting community events / activities (especially ones that supported the Air Cadets and CLB programs for youth, the Veterans, Legion, and Canadian Armed Forces). No matter what the topic, Wilson was always the positive, funny, outgoing, and motivated one who just wanted people to get along and be happy. Nothing was ever too much trouble for him, you just had to think or say it and he made it happen which led people to be careful what they said they wanted if they weren't willing to instantly jump up and work on it because he immediately was.

It is of complete sincerity to be able to say that no matter how tired or busy Wilson was, it never stopped him from getting things done or helping people as soon as they needed it. Most importantly, he would never complain and maintained a positive attitude throughout even when it was most inconvenient timing or he was suffering with his own health or family responsibilities. He was very kind and thoughtful and did many things for people that no one will ever no about unless the other tells. He respected people's privacy and dignity.

Wilson was a 'jack-of-all-trades" who could fix / build anything and a clever mechanic / handyman. He had exceptional people skills that attributed to his second-to-none management excellence that were exercised daily for over thirty-five years in the automotive services industry (multiple Canadian Tires, Carol Auto, IOC mines, and briefly two of his own automotive service stations).

Most notably were Wilson's outstanding patience, hilarious witty humour, and over the top above and beyond help and support he genuinely loved giving to anyone and everyone ranging from a close family member, friend, neighbour, to equally as much to an absolute complete stranger. It didn't matter who the help / support was for, his sincere care, quality, and willingness efforts were always the best he could possibly give.

Wilson absolutely loved and was fully devoted to his children and grandchildren ensuring they were fully supported in all their life accomplishments / setbacks no matter how big or small. They all knew his word was golden and the one they could always count on under any circumstance.

It is safe to say that Wilson's passing has left a tremendously painful absence in the lives of so many. But fortunately, the memories shared are priceless protected valued treasures embedded deeply within the hearts of each person whom have ever had the pleasure of his company, kindness, humour, thoughtfulness, patience, or countless "behind the scenes" support that often was hidden from plain sight in order to not bring attention to himself. Wilson did things for people simply because he hated to see a person unfairly treated, in need, struggling, disadvantaged, or helpless; it literally would keep him awake at night trying to come up with a way to help and then act on it to reach a successful resolution.

In Wilson's final days he proudly said how happy he was with his life, the many things he did, how well his children and grandchildren turned out, and that he had a lot of fun over the years. He said it was a great life and he is at complete peace with everything.
