Leah Matilda (Tilly) Thorne
(May 11, 1939 - December 30, 2016)
Matilda Thorne passed peacefully away at the Pleasant View Towers long term care facility in St. John's on Friday December 30, 2016 (age 77 years) surrounded by her three children.
Leaving to mourn: her children Elsie Drodge (Carl); Robert Thorne (Sharon) and Christine Thorne (Greg); her grandchildren: Lori Quinlan (Tony); Kendell Oliver (Greg); Amanda Gresik (Ben) and Ashley Drodge; her great grandchildren Shaylee and Greyson Oliver; her sisters-in-law Fannie Fagner and Gertie Gillingham; her brothers-in-law Tom Gillingham and Wilfred Riggs; also many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
Predeceased by: her husband Ambrose; her parents George Ernest and Wynetta Martin; her brothers Charlie and Clarence Martin; her sisters-in-law Sarah Mitchell, Jane Benson, Annie Mae Gillingham and Eleanor Riggs; and brothers-in-law Albert Fagner, Wallace Benson and Sam Gillingham.
The family will be receiving friends at Greens Funeral Home, Winterton, Trinity Bay, NL on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 2-9 pm. The funeral will be held at the Brownsdale United Church on Thursday, January 5th at 2:00 pm. Interment to follow at the Brownsdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Alzheimer's Association.
The family would like to express their most sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff of the Pleasant View Towers. Special thanks to Dr. Lisa Kieley and nurses: Scott; Mia and Janet; as well as all the LPN's, PCA's and other staff. The love and care you showed mom over the past four years will never be forgotten.
